This was the first effort by Word to produce an updated version of Handel's Messiah.  A later version -- The New Young Messiah -- was much more successful (and a lot better).  In this version, First Call's peppy version of "Every Valley Shall Be Exalted" is fun and easy to listen to ... which unfortunately can't be said for all the songs on the album.   (Interestingly enough, on The New Young Messiah First Call performed a different song, but on tour they provided background vocals for Larnelle Harris as he sang their song from this album: "Every Valley Shall Be Exalted"!)

The choir on this album is from the First Baptist Church of Norfolk, Virginia.  The narration is provided by Barry McGuire.
